The Kano State Police Command has detained four individuals in connection with the attack on the Emir’s palace in Kofar Kudu, Kano, on Sunday.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, verified the suspects’ arrest to The PUNCH over WhatsApp on Tuesday.
“Yes, the command has arrested four suspects, and they are now in police custody as the investigation is still ongoing,” he informed us.
Ibrahim Bakori, the state Police Commissioner, has formed a panel to examine a fight between supporters of Kano’s 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sañusi II.
Haruna, who did not provide any information about the arrest, stated, “Four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the Sunday clash.”
According to the PUNCH, a fatal fight was avoided on Sunday when some followers of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, allegedly battled in the Kofar-Kudu region of Kano.
The incident occurred when some miscreants believed to be Emir Sanusi supporters blocked the road, preventing Emir Bayero from passing through Kofar-Kudu on his way back to Nassarawa mini palace after paying a condolence visit to the family of the late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
Following the event, some palace guards were apparently injured, while vehicles belonging to police officers patrolling the palace were shattered, and the palace’s main gate was demolished.
According to an eyewitness, the police’s fast involvement kept the dispute from devolving into a full-fledged deadly confrontation.
