JAMB announces cut-off marks for admissions into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, colleges

-

JAMB and tertiary education stakeholders have accepted the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Score (NTMUS), popularly known as the cut-off score for 2024 admission to the country’s institutions.

The annual policy conference on admissions to higher institutions, held in Abuja on Tuesday, established 150 as the threshold for university admission and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. The assembly adopted 140 for nursing colleges around the country.

Last year, 140 were adopted for universities and 100 for polytechnics and institutions of education.

This means that no postsecondary institutions should admit students who score lower than the allowed scores; however, institutions may still set higher cut-off grades for their applications.

The decision was made following a vote by the leaders of the institutions. Vice-Chancellors voted on university benchmarks, Rectors for polytechnics, and Provosts for educational colleges.

The JAMB Registrar and Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, urged institutions to raise the minimum acceptable score to 160. However, the majority of institutional leaders were keen about raising the minimum acceptable ratings.

JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede, a professor, emphasized that all schools that recommended lower minimum scores must now raise their standards to at least the agreed-upon minimum points.

“Every institution should maintain its own approved minimum,” according to him.
